Jul 5, 2015 @ 10:28pm Feathers? Just tried a new game after having not played since alpha 10, scouted around the area I spawned (pine/maple border) and found no birds nests. Looted about 15 piles of rubbish around a small building and still no feathers. They were everywhere in.

7 Days to Die: Starvation Mod! No worries, this is not a cooking game even though cooking and food is very important in this mod (unlike the vanilla 7D2D). Other than obvious part that you are familiar from vanilla game, now cooking also involves new survivors (certain things can only be built next to survivors, in this case cooking station can only be built next to female survivor). It is also a lot difficult to get food and more importantly, food spoils in your bag after. Raw food, cooked food, vegetables, eggs… all of these will spoil soon unless you keep them in refrigerator. Not all the food though, can-food never spoils.

Still, if it’s cooking games you are looking for, better check out Papa’s Games website, plenty of cooking and restaurant stuff. Starvation mod on the other hand, is a lot more than just food and cooking. It changes 7d2d game in every possible way you can imagine.

About the Mod

Unfortunately Starvation Mod does not have a dedicated website yet or Wiki pages for that matter, if you’re looking for info about the Mod, you’ll have to visit the forum, which is where these guys live for now. Rest assured you are going to be visiting it all the time; so much content in this mod, so many weapons, tools, books, structures, zombie bosses, new flora and fauna… it’s like learning how to play Starvation Mod from 0. Of course the basic game concept and mechanics are the same but everything is heavily modified, take survivors for example. That was a really huge addition to the game, where other survivors arrive to your camp/base and you can utilize them in almost everything, some of them can cook, (normal and unique recipes), some will do farming for you, some make tools, weapons and ammo etc.

Starvation Mod Perks

Enough about cooking now, let’s see what else this mod has to offer: Couple of new perks in these Mod, have 100% been functional from the beginning. Which is hard to say about vanilla perks, some of which are glitch as (%@#! Even today in Alpha 16.

  • Pet Taming – allows players to tame dogs and other pet even predators such as panthers and jaguars. Which is a very nice skill to have in a crazy Starvation Mod world.
  • Animal Husbandry – very cool perk that allows you to start a farm and produce and harvest resources such as eggs, feather, and milk etc. skill allows you to craft and improve better taming and harvesting items.
  • Fisherman – Skill that allows players to make fishing pols of bamboo and catch fish in shallow waters. Fish can be used to cook meals.
  • Deep Water Fisherman – Advanced fishing skill allowing you to do fishing in deep waters… never got this far but should be interesting really.

Very cool set of perks, wouldn’t you agree? Men of war: assault squad 2 star wars mod. These parks are definitely the game changer but there’s plenty more in Starvation Mod that will surprise you even more.

Dangerous World of Starvation Mod

This world (on lowest difficulty) is far more dangerous than vanilla (on highest difficulty). Because of animals basically, the wild animals and roaming zombie bosses. Even of your life is not in an immediate danger, you still need to watch out for snakes and scorpions that are very difficult to notice (especially in green biome), because one bite will cost you 30 minutes of NO STAMINA mode.

Now back to wild animals. The danger is everywhere in every biome.

  • Snow Biome: Panthers, Jaguars, White Tigers and Wolves
  • Green Biome: Spider Zombies, Tigers, Wild Dogs, Spider Zombies and Wolves
  • Desert Biome: Rhinos, Coyotes and Spiders
  • Wasteland: Coyotes, Wolves and Spiders
  • Shores: be careful when near the water… crocodiles are the most dangerous and powerful animals in this mod.

Wild animals are ruthless and very dangerous, unlike zombies that walk very slow and don’t deal much damage, these animals (all of them) can run fast and hit like a train. While not too difficult to kill, Spiders are probably the worst enemy.

Finally the Bosses! So far we’ve seen 3 different bosses. Boss zombies in 7D2D was a necessary addition, it is actually rather strange why developers themselves never added bosses into 7 Days to Die original. So, the bosses of Starvation Mod… by the day 28, we’ve only seen 3 bosses and only one of them worth attention really, it’s the Wall Crusher! This guy takes down your defenses and walls real quick, and his got plenty of HP, so unless you take him out fast, you’ll have a wall breach in no time. You really need to use most the strongest weapons you got and aim for the head only. This boss is also surrounded by some aura that looks like a poison cloud (cannot confirm what this cloud does, since we never touched it). But most likely you either get infected, or contract rad poisoning. Either way, not only these bosses make the horde nights less boring but they are actually quite fun to deal with.

Conclusion

The overwhelming amount of content takes this game to a whole new level. If you like 7D2D original and never seen this Mod, you know exactly what the game lacks. And everything it lacks can be found in this Mod, that simple. You see, it’s not just new tools and weapons and bosses, there’s plenty more we did not discuss in this review. Sentinel hasp. Like for example some random encounters; for example, when traveling you will sometimes meet a military vehicle (Not talking about tanks). These vehicles spawn mini-bosses (new zombies) and some vanilla zombies (zombies in military outfits). The more you kill, the more they keep spawning and when finally cleared, you can loot the vehicle for epic loot, for example HK assault rifle or advanced crossbow or other new weapons.

Despite the minor issues and small bugs, Starvation Mod is simply epic! Highly recommended by this blog and all the authors. Though, several things you need to consider before installing it. With this Mod, 7D2D takes a lot more PC RAM and load times are higher than in original game. Though it does not really affect the in-game performance. Check out Amazing let’s Platy series by Kage848.
